Welcome to Coralline Dream Lounge - Sunday, May 11, 2008
Hi. My name is CorallineDream. Welcome to The Coralline Dream Lounge, an online community focused on marine reefkeeping and saltwater aquarium hobbyists.   Actually my name is Cameron and I’m the creator and webmaster of this website.   I started this site to encourage collaboration of other saltwater enthusiasts. Together we can share our knowledge and experiences and learn from each other’s successes and failures. This is a place where everyone is welcome and membership is free!   I am also an active scuba diver so you will also find a lot of interesting diving related pictures and info here as well.

I encourage you to take a moment to register with the site so you can participate in the forum discussions. Next stop by the Meet & Greet Forum and introduce yourself so we can get to know each other.  The Meet & Greet forums are the place to just relax, hangout and chat with other members.

There are several forums currently available, which are dedicated to specific areas of interest. This site is always work in progress. It’s a journey rather than a destination.   We’re always open to ideas & suggestions. My goal is that this website be created by hobbyists for hobbyists.  A special welcome to all my diving buddies also.  You've seen it all up close, perhaps you can learn how to keep "a slice of the ocean" in your living room too!

If you have any comments, suggestions or experience problems with the site, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly by clicking on my username and sending a private message.

We are currently seeking Reef Club members in the Southeastern United States (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia). Other areas are welcome too.

Just tell us the name of your club and where you are located and we’ll be happy to setup a forum and dedicate it to your club’s use. No club too small or too large. Perhaps your club doesn’t have it’s own website or maybe you’re considering forming a club. This is the place.   Your own Reef Club or Dive Club Forum is a great way to schedule your club meetings, chat with other club members, do coral frag trading or announce your clubs frag swap.

Enjoy the site and Happy Reef Keeping!

This is where we greet new members and tell everyone a little bit about yourself.

My name is Cameron, aka CorallineDream and the webmaster for this site.  I live in Southwestern Virginia.  I'm a saltwater hobbyist, scuba diver and own a captive coral propagation business.   When I'm not working on the Coral Farm I work as a computer consultant and help manufacturing companies implement ERP software.

If you have any questions about the site, please feel free to direct them to me.

Hi. Nice to meet you Cameron! I am thinking of getting a salt water aquarium. Can you give me an idea of how much work is involved?

I don't want to face my fears...I'm afraid of 'em!

Hi RacyRed,

A basic saltwater fish only setup is really not that much more work than a freshwater tank.  One major difference is obviously the need for salt mix to be added to the water.  There is some testing involved as there is with successful freshwater tanks too.

Here is a link to a great resource that should help: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marine/index.htm  This is Bob Fenner's site WetWebMedia.Com a wealth of information for hobbyists.   I highly recommend you pick up a copy of his book "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" and read a few chapters before you purchase the first piece of equipment.   There are some other quick start guides that are good, but this one is a common sense guide to doing it right!

When you get into Reef Systems where you are keeping Hard Corals such as SPS (Small Polyped Stony) & LPS (Large Polyp Stony), there is a bit more work, but the payoff in such a beautiful setup is well worth it.

I have a few extra tanks laying around which could save you some cash and I could help you get started when you are ready.

Cameron
